Adhan

At the adhan, a quiet
tap on the shoulder

A soft chime, and the reminder flows out of your MacBook’s notch. Other displays get a pill or an island at the top.

“Time for Asr” coming out of the MacBook notch

Your masjid

Set to your
masjid’s timing

Pick the gap to iqamah for each prayer, when the countdown starts, and when it closes. Count down to the adhan too, if you like.

Screen

Your screen dims
until iqamah

Minute by minute, so you notice without being stopped.

Never locks

Finish your sentence.
Then go pray.

The screen darkens toward iqamah, but your mouse and keyboard keep working. Drag the arc under the notch countdown to choose how dark it gets.

Every display

On every screen,
hidden on calls

The countdown shows on all your displays, or only the main one. It never appears in screen sharing or recordings.

“Asr iqamah in 5:57” in the MacBook notch

Lock Mac

Lock at iqamah,
if you want

Off by default. A 10-second warning comes first, with Cancel. Never while you share your screen.

Questions

Is Walasr really free?

Yes. No ads, no paid tier, no account. Development is supported by donations.

Which countries does it work in?

Every country. Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore get their official timetables. Everywhere else, Walasr calculates the times for your location with a standard method.

My masjid’s times are a minute or two different.

Open Settings › Prayer Times and shift any prayer by up to 15 minutes. The iqamah gap for each prayer is in Settings › Iqamah.

Will it interrupt a meeting or a screen share?

No. The dimming never blocks your mouse or keyboard, and the countdown is hidden from screen sharing and recordings. Locking at iqamah is off unless you turn it on, and it never happens while you share your screen.

Does it work offline?

Yes. A month of times is saved on your Mac, and Walasr can calculate them offline if a download fails.

Does it play the full adhan?

Right now Walasr plays a short, soft chime of its own at prayer time.

When is the iPhone and Apple Watch version coming?

Both are in development. Leave your email under “Walasr for iPhone and Apple Watch” and we’ll tell you when they’re ready.

Why do you ask for my email?

Walasr is free, and your email is the only thing we ask for. It tells us who uses Walasr and lets us reach you about important updates. We never sell it or share it, and you can ask us to delete it anytime.

What does “Walasr” mean?

It comes from the first verse of Surah Al-‘Asr, wal-‘asr: “By time.” The surah says people are in loss, except those who believe, do good, and urge each other to truth and patience. Prayer on time is where that starts.

How do I uninstall it?

Quit Walasr from its menu and drag it from Applications to the Trash.

وَالْعَصْرِ

By time.
